Dress a Girl program was a HIT!
1 of the 3 outreach options on July 19th was to drive 45 minutes to a school that HOPE4KIDS built & deliver new dresses. April & I chose this option & it was so fun! How special it was to take time with each girl, see their anticipation & then joy when they wore their new pretty dresses.
Rachel Eggum (in photo) started this program 10 years ago when she saw the need for so many girls here in Africa. She reached out to a few friends to sew some dresses, then posted the need on Facebook and the word spread! These dresses are made from people all over and sent with HOPE4KIDS to Africa to bring a girl happiness.
LOVE these sweeties.
:-)
Diane from Chicago helping each girl. Diane made a lot of the dresses herself as well as friends of hers from Chicago.
I really enjoyed this time.
So precious!
Heidi, April & Diane in the fun chaos.
Dresses need to go below the knee for each girl.
Girls waiting in line for their turn new dresses. The back line is already done & waiting for their routine medical check-up which HOPE4KIDS was providing this day too.
We had dresses for the littlest girls and the older school girls too.
Bonnie & Heidi surrounded by happiness.
LOVE.
Pretty girls in pretty fabrics.
Success... each girl received a new dress! There were 2 other Dress a Girl days in different locations while we were in Uganda. Rachel and the team brought over HUGE suitcases full of dresses from the USA.
PS: Excited that my mother-in-law, Pat is now sewing dresses for this outreach program. After Pat saw some of our trip photos she wanted to get involved with the Dress a Girl program. She ordered the dress pattern and got right to it. Yay! And Pat has several friends from California involved too. Thanks so much ladies! I know the dresses you're making will be greatly appreciated by HOPE4KIDS but more importantly they will bring big smiles to the girls who get a cute new outfit.
MADE with LOVE.
A new dress brought so many smiles on the girls faces...love it. Wonderful that your mother-in-law and her friends are now making dresses for these precious girls!
ReplyDeleteIt's a creative program and is wonderful that others can help from all over (in a creative way) to spread love abroad. Happy that Pat & friends have made some cute dresses already!!
