Me: Today I found this old photo. Just trying to find ways to distract from our oppressing heat.

Martin: Cape Solander
Me: Mmmmm, gelato! This is Thor...a friend, but we call him our nephew. He just moved to Scottsdale and we're glad to have him back in town. Thor lived with us for one month, about 4 years ago, when he was doing a college internship in Arizona. We're looking forward to hiking and playing some tennis with Thor again. Great kid!

Martin: Cape Solander
Me: We started playing in a Monday night sand volleyball league. This is Bob and Will after our 6pm match. We're a little rusty but getting better each week. Glad to be out there!

Martin: Whale watching for Humpbacks at Cape Solander.
Me: HOT, HOT, HOT!

At 3:55pm it was 112 outside. At 5:30pm it was still 112 degrees. It's hot morning, noon and night. We even started our bike ride this morning at 4:45am to beat the heat. The first hour was cool but by the time we finished 106 miles at 10:30am it was 103. It's suppose to hit 115 on Wednesday. Ouch!

Martin: Two slices of timber I picked up from the "Working with Timber Show". It's called Lace Sheoak from Western Australia.
Me: Our new Mac computers arrived. It's going to be a big learning curve and we're a bit overwhelmed (so different from our PC). Harley's a bit concerned about it too.

Me: My niece plays club volleyball during the summer. Her team is in a 4 day tourney in Phoenix so Bob and I went downtown to watch her play. April & her team did well today. More games tomorrow.

Martin: Bare Island, La Perouse. Had lunch here when on a job close by - very windy day. Captain Cook  first landed on the land across the water. This is the entrance to Botany Bay. A fort was built on the island back in the late 1800's. Some of the scenes from Mission Impossible II were shot here.

Me: It was 110 degrees today (maybe more) and I had to try it. Fry eggs on the pavement that is. But my experiment failed. Though it feels like you could cook your breakfast in the parking lot, you can't.

Martin: Company where I was working today.
Me: My niece, April Jane & I after our 20 mile bike ride with Bob, my sister and brother-in-law. This was a training ride for April since she and I have committed to doing RAGBRAI this year. RAGBRAI is an annual week long organized bike ride across Iowa and this year's route will be going through my home town, Elk Horn and right by the farm where I grew up. It also has an overnight stay in Atlantic, where my mom lives (so we'll stay with her one night) and in many other towns where we have relatives. It will be a grand adventure!! I've done it once before, when I was April's age: 16. April is a good athlete but she's never road biked before so Bob and I are going to help her train for 6 weeks before the big event which is July 24th to July 30th. It will be us and thousands of other cyclists biking 454 miles across the state.

Me: Bob after his bike ride eating my specialty du jour, protein pancakes. The recipe uses Chia seeds, whole oats & Kamut flour. Nutritious and yummy!

Me: Bob parked next to Trump's private 757 in Laguardia. Pretty big plane to fly around one guy.

Me: The number of miles I biked today.

Martin: Restoring another window frame.
Me: Bob left this morning for a couple days of flying and I gathered a few friends for a road ride in Scottsdale. It was a short training ride: 52 miles. I was glad to be out there and enjoyed the cooler temps we had for most of the route.

Me: Our friend, Jan went hiking with us this morning (before it got too hot). I met Jan 15 years ago when I was Activities Coordinator at The Pointe Resort. Jan was the head personal trainer.

We followed up our hike with some homemade protein pancakes (a new recipe from a friend that I'll have to share sometime). Really yummy!

Me: This is my nephew, David. He works at the Apple Store in Glendale. Bob and I need new computers and since our PC's have given us lots of trouble lately, we decided to try a Mac. Hope we like it.

Me: We left 65 degrees in Minnesota for 105 degrees in Arizona. Ouch.
One more photo from the weekend: Bob and I not in bike clothes.

Me: Harley waiting at the vet's office. You can't tell it in the photo, but she is shaking. She hates going to the vet and knows when we pull into the parking lot who we are there to visit. Fortunately we came to the vet under no emergency...just her yearly check-up. Harley is healthy as a horse.

Me: This is that $2 cabinet I found at a garage sale a while back. I had plans to sand it, repaint it and then distress it. But when I wiped off all the dust I discovered that I liked it just like it was. It's already distressed, naturally. I put it under a mirror in the dining area and really like it.

Me: Bob sent me a photo he took at 43,000'. It's shows a huge mushroom smoke cloud from the Arizona Wallow wildfire. The Wallow Wildfire is burning in eastern Arizona and has already burned 233,000 acres.
