A pretty drive across Rwanda back to The City of Joy.
Our driver was a survivor of the Genocide. He was just 9 years old when his family was attacked. His mom was shot and presumed dead. Zach along with his dad and siblings fled the country for hiding. Remarkably Zach's mother survived and was discovered in a hospital camp later. Their family reunited with their mother and though she is blind from the Genocide attack she is still living today & very happy to be with her family. Today the country as a whole has come together under good leadership. The people proudly call themselves Rwandans.... "We are all one." Zach says.
Zach made a stop at a Farmer's Market so Bob & I could buy some yummy sweet bananas.
There were a LOT to choose from (and a cute bicycle). :-)
We found the Ellingson family!
We met them in the city of Kigali to attend their church (7/29).
After church it was lunch & ice cream time.
Ice cream makes everyone happy... especially Esther.
Now we're back @ The City of Joy.
Laundry time for Bob and I... I had a LOT to wash.
Thanks for helping Esther. :-)
The next day was school.
We visited Ella's class...
...and they sang for us!
#mademecry
Because chalk was a big hit a few days ago... I headed up an hour of Chalk Art for Ella's class.
Everyone had fun being creative.
I never get tired of beautiful butterflies...
So many super heros!
Jumping rope at recess...
I was roped into jumping too... LOL!
"Teacher, Teacher... will you take my picture please!"
More recess fun!
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6...
And more teaching fun!
Giving a talk about flying and being a pilot. Bob did GREAT!
Closed out the night with a mile walk to the local farmer's market. We were accompanied by 3 lovely teachers from City of Joy. Love them. Loved the market. Loved today in Rwanda!!
WOW....all I can say is WOW...what a wonderful day you had...love the butterflies!
ReplyDeleteI do love the chalk drawings... of butterfly wings especially. Kids seem to love it too! Also Superman leaping over tall buildings in a single bound is so funny. Hahaha! I guess they were flying with their superhero capes. :-)
