Morning of Day 2 (10/24). It's NOT raining (yet) and we are all mingling around camp getting our packs ready for hiking. Today we introduced ourselves & started visiting more with members of our crew. This is George, Johnson and Goudance.
Right away I liked this kid! LOVE Johnson's smile. This was Johnson's 3rd trip working as a porter on Kilimanjaro. He's 21 and very excited to start his 1st year of college next week. He'll be going to MWEKA in Moshi; a university with various degrees in wildlife management.
Us & our 3 guides ready to explore day 2 on the trails.
More steep climbs.
More cool mossy trees.
More rainforest equals....
...more rain! :-/
We stayed positive & were having a great time.
It didn't take long to get attached to our awesome assistant guides, Goudance (39) & Leonard (47). Both are married and have children.
I liked to tease Leonard about not smiling. :-) We laughed a lot.
Cheeeeese! :-)
Polepole (means slowly in Swahili).
Jagadish & head guide, Raymond.
Love this pic of Bob with our leaders!
Group pic at our lunch spot. Midway point on our day's hike.
Making sure Leonard is smiling. He is...LOL.
More hiking.
More selfies.
Fish eye shot with a glimpse of our camp 2 in the distance. We're almost there and we can soon get dry clothes on and have some hot tea!
Middle of day 2 and Bob & I just couldn't believe we were actually here...hiking in Africa! After planning for nearly a year it just felt crazy to be in Tanzania on this adventure.
PS: Wetter & colder than we imagined it would be but already better & more beautiful than we had imagined it to be too!
It is interesting the different forms of vegetation you encountered...it was a real surprise to us...realizing your dream!
ReplyDeleteWe were surprised at how diverse this trail was too. We hiked through 5 different eco systems. Really cool!
