Yesterday Karen, Charlie & I headed to the Superstition Mountains. The cloudy day added to the mystery of these mountains where that gold is hidden.
All along the drive were numerous Prickly Pear blooming. Today's featured color was YELLOW!
So much vibrant yellow amongst the thorns.
Even the Antler Cacti were showing off yellow. Do you spot Karen?!
I get excited to see the Saguaro's flowering. They started popping this week and like the Argentine Giant their big white flowers only last 24 hours before they wilt.
The Prickly Pear blooms last longer.
We drove past Lost Dutchman State Park, past Canyon Lake and stopped at Tortilla Flat (above) for some souvenir shopping. We enjoyed the live country band performing on the patio. Just a few more visits to Arizona and you'll love country music too, Karen & Charlie! :-) teehee.
Our next stop was Goldfield ghost town. It sits at the base of the Superstition Mountains & they offer all kinds of touristy things like mine tours, jeep tours, trail rides, train rides, zip lines, reptile exhibit, a saloon, live country music, fudge (we had some), and ice cream (we had some of that too).
Karen bought some lovely souvenirs for their daughter, Stephanie & granddaughter., Karlie.
We had a good time walking around in the wild wild west.
I really love this photo of Karen & Charlie with the Superstition Mountains behind them. Funny that this place looks deserted despite the fact that a LOT of tourists were wandering around.
In case you thought we only found yellow flowers...
there were a few hedgehog cacti still blooming pink.

It was another fun-filled day topped off with a movie at our recliner seats theatre & dinner in downtown Tempe (ASU Mill Ave). Bob & my brother Rod joined us for that.
