Yesterday (4/20) was another big hiking day. We started early to beat the crowds on this popular Zion hike to Angel's Landing. That's Angel's Landing behind us (in the middle). The far plateau is called The Great White Throne (we didn't hike there).
Pointing to Angel's Landing. It's a 5.5 mile trek round trip with some steep incline which includes narrow trails lined with chains. It's definitely not a hike to do if you are afraid of heights. I can get sketched out with exposure so I stayed close to the chains!
Bob is more comfortable with heights but always careful...
…except when he slipped near the summit! :-/ KIDDING! (as if you were fooled) :-)
"Hang on Bob!"
Standing on top of Angel's Landing. For reference that is Observation Point (far right) where we stood yesterday. It's on the other side of the Virgin River which carved out Zion Canyon a LONG time ago.
Still on top of Angel's Landing (see me?). This is a better view of The Great White Throne behind Angel's Landing (also on the other side of The Virgin River).
Bob leaping across the river to The Great White Throne. ;-)
Angel's Landing is known for this section called Walter's Wiggles. It's 21 steep switchbacks allowing hikers to have easier access to summit this peak.
Check out this view of Walter's Wiggles! Pretty cool.
After Angel's Landing we continued our trek down & up a different trail to see the West Rim. We topped out at around 7000 feet making for another day with over 3000 feet elevation gain & 16 miles.
(will post a few West Rim pics tomorrow)
Another day of beautiful pictures...love the one where Bob is jumping across the river...how do you get these shots???
ReplyDeleteIf Bob jumps high enough I can crop out some of the ground below - hopefully making for a fun photo! There is a feature on my camera app called BURST and it takes several photos in a row quickly. That makes it easier to catch him at the top of his jump. :-)
