"The Subway"
Bob & I were lucky to score the last 2 permits to hike "The Subway". Zion National Park allows only a few hikers in certain canyons each day. On-line permits were full in advance so we went to the permit office the day before in hopes that "walk-in" permits would be available. We stood in line at 6:30am & to our surprise we got 2 permits to do the hike the following day (4/21)!! Here are our pics...
It was a 45 minute drive to the trailhead. We started at our usual time; Early. :-)
It's a 4.5 mile hike to reach The Subway.
The cascading waterfalls were beautiful!
The whole hike is along a canyon river (sometimes shallow, sometimes deep). With many crossings back & forth we took the advice of others to rent neoprene socks for the cold water. So glad we did…they were awesome! PS: I hate cold feet & hands.
As we neared The Subway the canyon started to narrow.
Big canyon cliffs and a unique curving of the side walls.
Inside The Subway were several clear green pools. So pretty!
Then we hit a dead-end of sorts. If we were to continue we would have to wade, swim & use ropes to traverse up & over large rocks & around waterfalls. We've had friends do this from the top of the canyon down. Maybe another time for us but today this was the end of the trail.
It truly was spectacular - especially how the sunlight illuminated the tunnel.
We snapped a bunch of pics!
Sorry for many similar shots…it's just a cool place.
Sometimes you have to click a lot to get the one favorite shot! :-)
I like this one!
And this one!
But this one is my favorite!
No…this is definitely my fav!!! :-)
I can see why you liked Zion...really beautiful....the last pic is my favorite too!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen! This hike was a good bonus for our time in Zion! Each of our 3 hikes were different. And then our day in Bryce Canyon was unique too. Fun!
