Nov. 14th: While we were sleeping in the town of lupins (Lake Tekapo) there was an earthquake along the northeast shores of New Zealand. Bob & I never felt the quake & 1st found out about it when Bob's mom texted to see if we were OK.
We turned on New Zealand news to hear it was a 7.5 magnitude. It caused road damage & other destruction in the area of Kaikoura. Sadly 2 people died because of the earthquake.
Later it was discovered these 2 cows & a calf were stranded on a grassy island. The earthquake had caused a collapse of the land around them!
Poor cows!
Update: We heard they were safely rescued! Yay!
We were so happy you and Bob were safe after hearing about the earthquake...glad the cows were safe!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen! It was unsettling to learn there was such a big earthquake while we were on the same island (& HAD planned to be in the Kaikoura area - changed plans a few days before). It seems New Zealand was fortunate that more people weren't injured or killed.
