Me: Back in Times Square again. This time in the morning so it was much more civilized. Here's a recap of our 9/10 NYC touring day…
We went by Radio City Music Hall (didn't realize that "America's Got Talent" is taped there). Bob & I have been to Radio City Music Hall before on a 2 day trip in 2001. We didn't see much of the city then but did go to The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular Show!
Across from Radio City Music Hall is where Jimmy Fallon stars in The Tonight Show. And across from Jimmy Fallon is the Rockefeller Center; home of The TODAY Show. It's also where the winter ice skating rink is (Bob & I skated there on our 2001 visit). :-)
St. Peters Cathedral.
Bryant Park where we had a delicious chopped salad at Bryant Park Grill.
Then to the 86th floor of the Empire State Building.
We lucked out & walked right up to the elevator to go up, up, up. I think the rainy day kept people away but yay for us…no crowds!
There were clouds but even so…it was an amazing view.
Looking downtown (south). You can see the One World Trade Center in the distance. And on the left of photo is the New York Life Insurance Building with the gold top.
Um…see my backpack? We were reenacting the Sleepless in Seattle Movie. Remember…Sam & Annie met & feel in love on the 86th floor after Tom Hanks (Sam) & his boy, Jonah ran back to find Jonah's backpack & there was Meg Ryan (Annie). BTW: Bob was looking for King Kong the whole time we were on the Empire State Building deck.
A photo in every direction and then we went down.
Citibikes and off we go...
Yep…we are biking through Times Square!
Don't be scared…the traffic was moving so slow that we actually felt freedom by riding these bikes through taxis and buses. Even so…we were careful. We were in a hurry to get to the hotel, change our clothes & catch a train to the US Open.
The tennis match ended up being canceled that night due to rain & was rescheduled for the next morning (9/11). This photo is on 9/11 at Grand Central Terminal. Grand Central Terminal is one of the 10 architectural wonders of NYC and holds a lot of history (built in 1913). It was really neat inside! We had no trouble getting on our train and in 30 minutes we were at Arthur Ash Stadium in Flushing Meadows to see the women's semi-finals. I'll write about the US Open tomorrow (it was awesome)!
Looks like you had good weather at the top of the Empire State building, and had a good view....did you go into St. Pat's???? We did...was beautiful! There you are riding in traffic again....you are brave!
ReplyDeleteNo, we didn't get inside of St. Patrick's Cathedral. We should have but when we passed by it we were in a hurry to get to downtown.
