Martin: Mother's Day and Ruth's brother-in-law's birthday.
Me: 7:00am yesterday: Bob, April, Harley and I hit the trail in Flagstaff, AZ. With backpacks on we were headed for the top of Mt. Humphreys. The tallest peak in Arizona!
After a couple stops to shed jackets we found the boulder field. Very long hillside landslide of giant rocks.
Taking a snack break and putting back on the jackets & hats. Soon we'll be above tree-line with the expected wind and cold.
At the saddle and no more trees. And yep, there was wind and cold.
About one more mile to the top.
We hiked and hiked. Slower and slower. The higher altitude effected our pace and our heads. All of us were getting pressure headaches. :-(
Surprisingly there was quite a bit of snow along the trail.
We couldn't pass up the opportunity to take some snow pics (and catch our breath)!
Family photo. :-)
Snow dog, Harley was a great hiker. She was in her happy place all day!
Amazing views.
Soooo happy April did this hike with us! It was her first time hiking Mt. Humphreys and the highest mountain that she's climbed to date. She is a natural and so fun to hike with!
This is one of my very favorite photos. Love them and the backdrop!
At the TOP! We made it through some insane wind to get there! We quickly sat down in the rock shelter for protection.
Grabbed some lunch and relaxed a bit.
Mt. Humphreys. 12,633 feet. May, 18, 2014.
9 mile round trip hike.
Nearly getting blown off the top. Wahoo!
Epic Day.
