The day after hiking Mt. Fuji (August 22)
On our 3 hour drive back to the Tokyo airport we stopped to see the statue of Hachi.
I've mentioned Hachi before (my favorite movie & true story about an amazing Japanese dog). Well, this is the place where that story took place in the 1920's. Hachi waited for his owner every day at the train station. His owner would arrive at the same time each day and Hachi would be there. After the sudden death of Hachi's owner, Hachi STILL went to the train station daily and waited and waited for his owner to get off the train. Every day for 9 more years Hachi waited here (until Hachi passed away at an old age in 1935). It's a sad yet heart-warming story about the love and faithfulness of a dog.
I'm really glad we got to see this tribute to Hachi. #Faithful #Friend.
This was one of the train cars from the 1930's.
This is the intersection today of the train station location.
It's a lot busier now than in the '30's! This train station was in a rural area of Japan just outside Tokyo (then).
It's not country here anymore.
Fun for Bob and I to see a bit of Tokyo city life.
