8-8-16

Today we set out to summit Missouri Mountain. So fun to have our friends, Scott & Shelly join us for this trek. They drove up from Ft. Collins to spend 3 days with us!
Phoenix friends, Erich & Sharon met us too. They are on an 8 day Colorado vacation.
Add in Anna & Beth who did yesterday's Mt. Yale 14er & we had a fun group of 8.
Shelly, Scott & Bob. At this point the trail was very rocky & steep. After this photo Shelly & Scott headed back down the mountain due to the terrain & clouds rolling in.
About the time Scott & Shelly turned around Beth, Anna, Sharon & I reached the saddle at 14,000 feet. Unlike the blue skies on the east side of the mountain where we had been hiking there was weather to the north (that now we could see).
The clouds were still in the distance but after a short walk on the ridge we knew we needed to get down. Anna's summit pic.
This was our descent...down a rocky slope from the ridge. The sky looked good this direction but behind us was getting dark. Us 4 girls plus a couple other hikers scooted down the rocks in the rain (not so fun).
Beyond the rocky exit we regrouped in the Missouri Gulch (pretty & green). The rain had stopped & it was a pleasant walk together back to the car.
14er completion hug!! :-)

  2. It was strange weather last week. A few mornings with early rain which is not the typical Colorado schedule. Glad we all turned around when we did!!
