This morning we drove to Twin Lakes to cheer on friends racing the Leadville 100. Our niece, Danielle & her 3 kids came up from Denver to meet us here. We're lined up looking for our Phoenix friends to ride through. Bob, me, Brooke, Ashley & Tyler.
Here comes Beth (who hiked two 14ers with us earlier in the week). Tough girl!
Clint, Anna & I cheering Beth on towards her climb up Columbine (12,500 ft). BTW: This is Beth's 8th Leadville race.
Here's Beth's dad, Bill They make Leadville a family affair & had several other relatives competing today. This is Bill's 7th Leadville race. Wow!
So excited of these two; Kimo & Dean! They both had fantastic races under 8 hours!
Dean had a PR finishing in 7 hours & 34 minutes. That is so FAST! He was 2nd in his age group. This was Dean's 5th Leadville. Julie (Kimo's wife) is in the middle. Happy campers!
Kimo with his crew #livelikehighly
This was Kimo's 10th Leadville and all of them under 8 hours! This feat earned him a big belt buckle & a special award for 10 years & 1000 miles. Congrats, Kimo! It was a very emotional day for Kimo, family & friends...as Kimo rides for his best friend, Highly. We all dearly miss Highly...a special man who inspired everyone who knew him! Rachel (Highly's daughter) is on far right and Sally, Highly's wife is next to Rachel. So great to see them today.
At 10 hrs & 58 minutes, Dave came across the line. Nice work out there on your 2nd Leadville 100, Dave!
7 minutes later at 11:05 Chuck finished the race. He was exhausted but happy! Congrats, Chuck!
Shout out to our friend, Bill Kellogg who finished at 9 hrs & 41 minutes (we missed a finishing photo of him as well as our buddy Steve who finished at 11 hrs & 22 minutes). Both had PRs! To everyone who raced this event...hats off! It's the toughest Bob & I have done & takes an incredible amount of training as well as grit & determination to finish!
Our crew left Leadville & drove to a camping spot near Buena Vista. Fun day & evening hanging out with the kids & Danielle.
Campfires are just fun! :-)
So good that you were able to cheer on your friends at Leadville...I'm sure you had a wonderful time with your niece and children...campfires are fun. Nice that Highly was remembered!
