To Martin…Happy Father's Day! You're a GREAT dad!
Adrian and Daniel are lucky to have you.
Me: From this photo you would never know that Bob's dad was a NASA engineer.
And you would never know that my dad was an IOWA farmer!
We are lucky that both our dad's have been great examples of working hard and having fun. They each have two of the best smiles too! :-) Happy Father's Day to my FIL and all the wonderful dads out there.
Love this photo of my dad that I came across last week. My dad was not allowed to finish high school as his dad pulled him out at 8th grade to work the farm. He enjoyed school and LOVED sports (especially baseball) so he hated to not finish high school. To dad's credit, when he raised his 8 children he stressed the importance of good grades and got them all involved in sports. It was a goal of his that we all go on from high school to earn our college degree. He firmly believed in a good education and that sports were an essential part of shaping one's character (not to mention fun). He saw all of his 8 children get a college degree (many on sports or academic scholarships). I owe mom and dad so much but my dad's work ethic, respect of others, faith in God and finding fun at any age has had a profound impact on me. My dad passed away on August 11, 2000. Of course I still miss him so this quote is appropriate…

"Dad, your guiding hand on my shoulder will remain with me forever." - Author Unknown

Happy Father's Day, Dad! xoxo

PS: I think my dad was in his early 70's when Atlantic high school awarded him an honorary high school diploma.

  1. What a wonderful story about your dad...so happy he was awarded a honorary high school diploma...both of our dads knew what a good days work was, and instilled that in us. Both of our dads loved baseball. Love the pic of Bob's dad...good lookin!
