Me: Happy New Year from Yangshou!
deck off our hotel room with a killer view!
The cruise ship dropped us off in Yangshou yesterday afternoon and we had 24 hours to explore the town. Yangshou was founded in 590 A.D. during the Sui Dynasty and according to China creates the fairyland of the world. I agree, the scenery along the Lijiang River and the town of Yangshou nestled in the mountains is magical!
Yangshou now has a population of 300,000 and is a popular destination for adventurers to hike, fish, boat, and do mud baths in the mountain caves of limestone. Celebrities, presidents and ministers of over 150 countries have made this area a must stop.
Can't you just picture Aladdin flying his magic carpet over that mountain?
Famous West Street is filled with shops and locals demonstrating their craft.
Little cutie greeting the tourists.
Sweet boy enjoying a mandarin orange while his mom sold knitted booties. I bought 3 pairs for baby gifts, they are adorable.
There were fruit vendors on every corner...

We even squeezed in a short bike ride.
Bob and M braved the tandem. :-/
Despite getting lost and finding ourselves in some precarious traffic situations, it was fun!
This town is just cool.

Last night we celebrated New Year's Eve with the Salsa Family in Yangshou. This is the view from our restaurant overlooking the walking street. Doesn't it look like a village in The Alps? It was a special evening; a nice topper to our incredible trip and the perfect way to bring in 2013!
