Me: This morning we traveled to the Jade factory. It was fascinating! When jade was first discovered it would take 2 years to cut through a boulder (the size of the one in the above replica) using a blade made of cow hide leather.
Today they use a diamond blade to make some of the most amazing statues and beautiful pieces of jewelry.
M got a gorgeous necklace with white jade flowers and green jade on the chain. Bob bought me a pair of green jade earrings that will go nicely with the jade necklace Pat and Bob gave me from their travels here with the "Salsa family" in 2006. :-)
Then we arrived at The Great Wall of China!
The Salsa Family
And the girls were off...there was climing to do!
Lots of climbing...
We caught up to Ro & Ree's friend, Shayna. Nice job girls!
And we could see Rod waving to us from below (see him in front of the tower?).
Bob and I were having a fun time with Ro & Ree. Thankful to be in China and climbing The Great Wall with our nieces!
A few more pics
Attaching a lock to a chain along The Wall is a wedding tradition.
We did it!
On our way back to the hotel we stopped at a Cloisone Factory for a late lunch and did a little shopping. We also saw this guy driving his little truck packed high, a typical sighting on the roads in Beijing.
Jane - Can't "Thank You" enough for posting the pics...they are wonderful...how was the "Great Wall?"
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you are having a wonderful time with your nieces!!!
Hi Karen - The Great Wall was amazing. So glad for the experience of seeing it! We had a very late arrival into Chengdu last night (12:40am because of a flight delay) so we are exhausted this morning. We do get the morning to lay low around the hotel. Pandas tomorrow...the girls (and us) are so excited! :-)
ReplyDeleteSpotty coverage with internet - but seem to have a good connection this morning.
