June 27 (Day 2) hiking the PCT continued...
We left camp around 9am and in no time we were walking between wildflowers and pine trees with snow covered mountains before us.
The serenity & beauty of backpacking the PCT.
Anyone know what this puzzle bark pine tree is called? We saw quite a few along the trail.
Stopping to look back on where we have come from... a long ways!!!
I'm pointing to Aloha Lake (it's not the blue lake in the middle). Aloha is further and higher. It sits at the base of those snowy mountains. You can see a sliver of the blue water of Aloha Lake if you click on photo to enlarge. Pyramid Peak is the pointy mountain in the far distance.
Donner Selfie on the trail towards Dick's Pass.
We got up & over Dick's Pass. 9,000 + feet. Wahoo!
On the other side was snow!
Quite a bit of snow too!
Silly to be wearing shorts on a snowy mountain! :-)
We were careful with our steps. No falling allowed.
Down, Down, Down.
Dick's Lake below.
It's just pretty everywhere.
During our lunch break we took a short walk to this vantage point. We could see Lake Tahoe!!! It was our 1st sighting and was only 1 of 2 places we spotted Lake Tahoe during our 3 day PCT trek.
Next Post: Day 2 continued...
Words escape me...so beautiful...were you surprised to see snow???
ReplyDeleteYes... surprised that section of trail had that much snow. Made it interesting... we threw some snowballs. Hahaha!
