June 26 (day #1) on the PCT continued...
After Aloha Lake & more hiking we took a quick break.
Rich relaxing.
The stop was short & we were soon back on our feet strolling along Heather Lake. Heather was particularly fond of this pretty pond. ;-)
The girls needed a posed pic in front of Heather Lake.
Heather, Jane, Olivia
Bob needed a photo too.
Rich didn't want one though. It's hard to get Rich in front of the camera (or behind it). What?!
I don't understand Rich... LOL! No secret that I'm a major picture clicker.

Finally Day #1 hiking on the PCT was done.
We settled here @ Gilmore Lake & set up our tents.
It felt great to take those heavy packs off & sit. Ahhh... love our camp chairs.
We filtered more clean water and we played Password.
Freeze-dried supper time...
Bob & I had Beef Stroganoff and Chili.
Pasta Primavera for Olivia.
Rich: Beef Stew / Heather: Chili Mac Cheese.
When camping it's an exciting time to boil up water & sample these freeze-dried meals. After a long day they always taste great (though some are better than others).
Lake Gilmore was a pretty campsite but it had too many mosquitoes. :-( Thank goodness Rich had OFF bug spray. It really helped keep the bugs from bugging us. Camping Tip: REI natural bug spray is NOT effective. It doesn't discourage the mosquitos at all. We ALL used Rich's OFF.

Good morning Day #2... Nice view!
Where's my latte???
The Donner Party doesn't need coffee, hahaha. We all woke happy, made oatmeal, drank hot chocolate, & broke down our camp. Loaded up the packs & put them on our backs. OUCH...  when your hips & shoulders are a bit bruised from the previous day it's a shock. No worries... once mov'n you forget any pack discomfort and get in the groove. We left camp around 9am ready for another 10-12 miles and another 3600-4000 feet elevation gain.

  1. I admire the Donner team's stamina...I know even in my younger days I wouldn't be able to keep up....again beautiful scenery!
