Team Zurisana!
1 day hike; 25 miles, 5,500 ft descent, 7,000 ft ascent, 12 hours on our feet.
There was heat... it was steep ... it was hard... but our team was awesome!
Smiles for miles... positive vibes... strong legs... encouragement... fun!
Here's how our June 5th began...
3:00am - Wake-up call.
3:30am - Meet in the lodge parking lot to do a last minute check of our packs.
3:35am - Load up the 2 SUV's and drive to the shuttle bus nearby.
On the 4:00am Hiker Express Bus to South Kaibab Trailhead.
4:15am - Our group is ready to start hiking!
7 of us will hike across The Grand Canyon (south to north).
Carol, Paul and Brent will hike down 1.5 miles with us for fun (then back up same trail).
We needed our headlamps for about an hour.
Brent took this photo. The 7 of us are on the trail below with a few headlamps still shining.
At Cedar Point (1.5 miles into the hike). Here I asked Clara if she wanted to continue for the whole hike. This would be the spot to turn back and hike back up south Kaibab with her grandpa if she felt uneasy about the all day trek. She said enthusiastically that she wanted to continue hiking with Team Zurisana. We were all so happy! I told Brent, Carol & Paul the good-news, said so long to them & caught back up to my team.
Brent, Carol & Paul enjoyed the amazing views.
They enjoyed their hike back up & taking fun pics!
It was a beautiful sunrise.
Way to go guys! The 3 of them joined up with Nancy who was at the trailhead watching hikers below. Then the 4 of them had a great time touring a bit in Grand Canyon Village before driving our 2 cars around to the north rim where they would meet us later in the day. Their drive would take about 4.5 hours. The hikers ETA to get out of the canyon would be around 5pm. See you guys on the north and thanks so much for being our shuttle drivers! We couldn't do this as easily without you all. :-)

Rim 2 Rim continued in next post...
