3-15-15

Me: Mom, Bob, Nancy (SIL), her friend from Iowa (Kathy), & I went to the Phoenix Art Museum. FREE entry & FREE ice cream and the perfect thing to do on a warm Sunday afternoon. We had a great time viewing the special exhibits. One of the traveling exhibits was Andy Warhol with some of his famous & not so famous work. Andy Warhol, more famous now that when he was alive, definitely was "out there". :-) He is known for his Cambell's soup cans' paintings as well as his colorful portraits of celebrities.
This portrait of Queen Elizabeth was on display & the caption beside it said that she & the royals were not happy with the portrait. Calling it unflattering. It was taken in 1977.
However, in 2012 England & the royals bought a series of this very portrait. Funny.
In addition to Andy Warhol, we viewed an exhibit on Leonari DaVinci & his written work on water & scientific theories. Very interesting (mostly to Bob)! There was an American Fashion exhibit, black & white photography of Navajo reservations in the 70's as well as a large display on Chinese art. And there was FREE ice cream (did I mention that?). ;-)
