Me: This is how the weather looked at 8am as we headed to Scottsdale to lead a bike ride of about 90 cyclists. Not too promising that Bob, Heidi and I would take anyone out for a cruise. However, an hour later it stopped and some of the camp attendees (many came from MN, MI, & CO) were still willing to ride since the weather wasn't threatening anymore.
Only about 30 riders decided to risk it though (everyone else did indoor spin classes) & off we went. 15 miles into the ride & it started pouring. Several in our group turned back but the rest of us continued on (we were hopeful). It did clear for a while & we had some beautiful miles of scenery with nice temps.
Our group had snacks (from our support vehicle) at mile 25 & then we turned around to head back to the club. With about 20 miles to go it turned bad.
Really bad with a heavy downpour, some hail, & flooding streets (look at this brown river going over the road). You can see us up ahead biking. Photos taken by our support vehicle.
Our group safely back at the club!! And for that we were ALL thankful since the last 10 miles were a bit scary. Great job to the cyclists who had excellent bike handling skills and for being positive in some trying circumstances. We actually did have fun!
