Me: Sad day! Harley coming back from the Vet and me from ER. :-(
We had the most unfortunate incident early this morning and Harley and I both have dog bite wounds from Macy. Macy IS a sweet dog but something during our routine breakfast feeding prompted a dog fight where Macy latched onto Harley's neck and wouldn't let go. I was in between them trying my hardest to pull Macy off but I couldn't. I screamed and screamed for Bob at 5am (he was in bed sleeping) and when he got to us he had to force Macy's jaw open to free Harley. It was then I realized I had 4 or 5 bad looking puncture wounds on my wrist. Throbbing pain followed with panic. Bob separated the dogs and called 911. My wounds could have been sooo much worse. I will recover from a bad sprain and the punctures and pain will heal with antibiotics, dressing, Advil and rest. Harley's 2 face bites will heal too with the same protocol.
Macy is sad too but we don't doubt our decision to give her back to Cattle Dog Rescue. I truly believe Macy is a sweet dog but I can't trust them together now. We can't cause Harley to have daily stress and not knowing what triggered this morning to go sooo bad is unsettling. We have our guesses and I feel partially to blame with having them in close quarters when food was involved. Yet, we've never noticed any food aggression from either dog.
We gave Macy & Harley lots of love today but never let Harley and Macy see one another again. Cattle Dog Rescue picked up Macy tonight and we said our good-byes. What a hard day. I'm really sad.
I know Macy didn't mean to hurt us. She didn't but it happened. We want the best for Harley, us and Macy. We pray you find the perfect family soon, Macy. We love you! :-(
You and Bob made the only decision you could...I'm so thankful Bob was with you, and could get Macy off of Harley....I know your heart is breaking....I pray that Macy is adopted soon....Thinking of You!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen. Yesterday was so difficult and shocking. I am a little more freaked out about what happened today. Harley is more at peace, I can tell already. It's a struggle to replay what/why it happened but bottom line is it did. Thankful it wasn't worse and wishing Macy a good home soon. She will be ok. We will be good too!
