Martin: Winter starts this coming weekend and the leaves as still turning.
Me: Barn Burner 2013
7:00am mass start with solo, duo & 4 person team riders. You begin with a run to your bike. See Bob and I?
And we're on the bikes. Bob and I ride the 1st 26 mile lap together. Very fun!
Me in red.
Transition area. You ride your bike through the barn and hand off a bandana to your teammate or keep going if you are racing solo.
This is Janet. She was my partner for the women's duo division. We took 2nd place!
Here's Bob after lap three. He was going to call it a day then but instead rallied to ride our friend, Rob around for his 4th lap (Bob's 4th lap too).
I was happy to be done with my 2 laps so I kicked back while my partner, Janet plus Bob and other friends were out on their final lap.
Dirty Vitesse friends: Shannon and Jay
Chuck
Dean with his wife and daughter. He raced 104 miles solo and got under 8 hours earning himself a big belt buckle and a Leadville 100 spot.
Ed (middle) had a tough day and completed 3 out of 4 laps. Deb and Shannon raced on a 4 person team.
Bob coming through the barn after his final lap. 104 miles done! Congrats!!
Bob and Rob celebrating.
Until Rob ended up in the medical tent. Dehydration and not enough salt caused some trouble. Rob got help and recovered well.
Some Vitesse folks showered and relaxing before awards.
Bob and I hit the road back to Phoenix tonight. He flies to Miami in the morning for work. We are really happy we got to take part in the Barn Burner festivities. Always a good time riding your bike hard, getting really dirty and enjoying wide open spaces like this!
