3-1-12

This is the cute little place we stayed at last night in Cole's Bay.
And this is our cute little rental car.
We couldn't pass up buying Vegemite at the grocery store. We made ourselves a Vegemite sandwich for our hike today but couldn't stand eating more than one bite. Bob and I think it's the worst thing we've every tasted! Do you really eat this stuff, Martin? Or is it just a cruel joke you play on tourists?
Had an overcast day today but perfect conditions for hiking. We set out on foot to find Wineglass Bay. Here is our first glimpse of it.
We reached the beach and a cute Wallaby greeted us.
This beach is only accessible by foot or boat.
Quiet and serene.
Us.
We had our lunch here (peanut butter and jelly sandwiches  - NOT Vegamite) and walked the length of the beach.
The sun came out...
About 10 minutes after this photo was taken the skies opened up and it poured. We still had 3 miles to trek back to the car. It added to the experience as it felt like high adventure hiking in the pelting rains.

After our hike we stopped at the Freycinet Marine Farm for thee best fresh caught oysters and mussels we've ever had! Drove from here towards Hobart and made a few stops along the way including "spiky bridge" shown above and a stop for homemade strawberry ice cream (also the best we've ever had). YUM!
We reach Hobart at sunset. Found a restaurant on the Elizabeth Street Pier and ate seafood chowder.

Tomorrow we fly to the Great Barrier Reef!
