10-19-12

Me: Mom is here and we already hit the garage sales this morning! We're pretty excited about our finds! Above is a little yellow bistro table. It was $30 (talked her down from $40). It didn't come with a table top or seats, though the seller gave me some thick board to cut out the seats later. On the next garage we went to the homeowner had a piece of round glass sitting in the corner. I asked if it was for sale. She said "Sure, $5." I got it for $3. I figured I could have it cut down to fit. We got the table set up and the glass looks great just sitting on top. Will have to see if Bob thinks it's secure enough that way. It's a heavy piece of glass with a nice finished edge. Anyway, I like the table. It looks cute and it will be functional (once we get the seats put in). Yeah!
We also found some things for Kavan! 8 books and a puzzle for .25 cents each, a little wood chair that is so cute $2.50, and a Fisher Price learning game, $2. Mom is wiping down all the books so they're ready for reading time.

Now I need to pack. Bob and I are heading north for the weekend. We're going to hike the Grand Canyon with Abbie, Mike, Anna, Troy and Janet!

Me: I just mixed up this homemade laundry soap and I LOVE it. I found the recipe on Pinterest, bought the ingredients at the grocery store and mixed it up in a bucket. After the first wash I'm sold! It got our chronically dirty towels white again! I bought this glass canister at Walmart and I already had the sticky letters. I have about twice this amount made up and according to the blog post it should last about 9 months. You use 1-2 tablespoons per load. I think the total cost of ingredients was under $30.

Me: Thunderstorm developed as the day was ending. Quite a bit of lightning but not much rain.
Me: We put in a new gate to the desert! Harley likes it already since it's easier to spot the bunnies. It will also be easier for my mom (who visits tomorrow!). Before we had to step up and over the 1/2 wall to get out for our trail hikes. Planning to paint it green next week.

Me: Kavan eyeing the block tower.
Boom, it's down. Nice work, Kavan.

Martin: Not a bad day at all.
Me: Date night at the movies. Bob and I saw "Trouble with the Curve". It was really good! You should see it. Plus Clint Eastwood reminds us of Bob's dad.

Earlier today we watched the record breaking skydive from 24 miles above the earth. Wow, that was nail biting. Anyway else watch? Amazing.

Me: Harley very interested in our first garden sprout; a radish!

Happy Birthday to my wonderful mother-in-law, Pat! Hope you had a terrific day topped off with cake and ice cream! Birthday hugs from the 3 of us. :-)
