Johnson at Mweka College!

Johnson is in semester one of his 2nd year at Mweka College of Wildlife Management and Conservation. I don't recall if I wrote that Johnson was 3rd in his class his 1st year (around 80 students)! He is a leader in his fellowship group on campus and is the region secretary. We are so proud of Johnson & always enjoy his updates about college life and their safari or mountain training.

January (Tom Eggum)

Tom Eggum (2nd from the left) is the Founder/President of Hope 4 Kids International. That is the organization who April & I traveled to Uganda with in July 2018. Tom spoke on January 6th at Hope Church. Never miss a chance to hear Tom speak... he is captivating, funny, sincere & real! He has amazing stories to share & they inspire everyone.

After the service Bob and I set up a table to register folks for Wheels 4 Water. It's a benefit bike ride on February 23rd to raise money for a water well in the village of Bugunga (in Uganda). They currently walk 7km to retrieve water & it's not even a clean water source. :-(  75% of deaths in remote east African villages are caused from dysentery & water born diseases. After returning from Uganda last summer Bob & I wanted to help make a difference for these people & I had an idea of involving bikes. I am happy to volunteer my time to organize this new event. With the help of Hope 4 Kids International as well as Bob (my biggest support) and several friends assisting... we are off to a good start in launching Wheels 4 Water.  Riders choose a 34, 18 or 12 mile ride. Their $25 entry goes to this well (a water well costs 10,500)! We invite non-cyclists, friends & family to be a part of this water well too with any small donation... every drop counts!!! Thank you for your prayers for Wheels 4 Water & Bugunga.

The holidays sure were great! But now it's a new year... with new goals.

Photo was NOT taken in the air... LOL! This was at 11:00pm before I was sent to the back of the plane so Bob & the caption could take off. It was really cool to get a tour of Bob's 757 office! Glad I don't have to figure out what all those buttons and screens do. YIKES! #impressive #myhusbandissmart I stayed awake long enough to see 12:00am... turning the calendar to 2019 in the air!!! Then I went to sleep. Bob stayed awake... it's part of his job!  :-)

Hawaii (Last day of 2018)

Up early to go sight seeing & the last day of 2018! We drove up the road of Waimea Canyon.

At the top we had a beautiful view to the Pacific Ocean. Pretty rainbow faintly showing in photo.

This was the same lookout 1 hour earlier. Everything was fogged in with ZERO view. We started driving down but when some blue sky appeared we drove back to Pu'u O Kila Lookout to see if things had changed...

It had...YAY! This was behind that fog screen. LOVELY!

We stopped at other lookouts along the road. Waimea Canyon is called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.

See the waterfall? Waipo'o Falls.

Next time we'll do some hiking in gorgeous Waimea Canyon!

On our drive to the hotel I took Bob to see the suspension bridge. I also showed him my Kauai beach campground. He liked tent city!

Now to shower, nap & then hitch a ride with Bob on his 11pm flight to Phoenix. It's gonna turn 2019 in the air! :-)

Hawaii (Bob's Back)

December 30th, 2018...

Bob's back on the island! At 4pm I met Bob and his crew at the American Airlines host hotel. I kinda like this resort... a LOT!

This is The Kauai Marriott. Our first 2 nights on the island were at The Courtyard Marriott @ CoCo Beach. AA uses both hotels for crew & both are lovely... this is just bigger with more WOW factor!

There are 3 sand volleyball courts right in front of the resort which makes THIS Marriott our favorite! :-) Bob quickly exchanged his pilot uniform for board shorts. Friendly locals invited us to play & we got in 3 games by sunset. Speaking of sunset... it was on fire! I was pinching myself that I was on a Hawaiian island playing volleyball with my husband on his work trip.

Fun fact: 18 years ago we played volleyball on this very court! We knew the beach was familiar & realized it was the place we played in 2000 (we had stayed at a smaller hotel up the road back then).

A quick dip after volleyball & then a walk to dinner.

It was a short stroll to Duke's; a popular island hangout.

 Isn't sampling Mai Tai's required when you're in Hawaii?!

Hawaiian Girl

Hawaiian Girl? Well, I can pretend. :-) This was yesterday; hanging out at the Hyatt before I went to my campground. Since I was kinda homeless, I purchased a $50 spa treatment at this resort which additionally gave me access to their fitness classes, lap pool, sauna, steam & hot tubs, weight room & beach + restaurants. So... I pretty much made a day of it here! 

At 9:30am I took a wonderful yoga class! Then it was lap swimming, laying out, hot tub, epsom-salt float treatment plus shower.

Down to the Hyatt beach for a bit.

And then lunch by the pool. It's a beautiful resort! Wonder what their rooms cost?

Hawaii is more fun with Bob but I can't say him leaving me here was rough. LOL!

Off to the American Airlines host hotel to meet Bob & his flight crew. They'll be landing at 4pm!!
