Uganda (Spa Day)

July 23: Spa Day in Tuba Village.
Today we gave pedicures and manicures to some lovely ladies.
Several from our team treated 20 women to a day of pampering. It's an idea that Rachel (who started Dress a Girl) incorporated into the HOPE4KIDS mission trips. It's a wonderful way to treat special ladies selected from their communities. The women sign up ahead time but they are also chosen by local Hope4Kids staff. Maybe it's a single mother, or someone going through a hard time, or it could be a strong woman in the community being honored for their leadership.
I enjoyed treating Jenna to a pedicure & manicure.
She & her baby are a ray of sunshine!!
It was a relaxing atmosphere with much joy!
These ladies love to sing... an expression of their thankfulness.
Thankful for this day.
Thankful for Jenna.
Thankful for connecting women from opposite sides of the world.
Each lady got to take home their wash basin for daily use plus a new scarf, bars of soap, lotion, nail polish & a few other items. Yay!

Uganda (The Rock)

Conquered "The Rock"
Behind us is "The Rock" of Tororo with a hiking trail to the top.
Some of our team members got up early on July 23rd to hike it.
I hustled to the top with 1 of our guides.
Peace...
Out.
Fun morning of exercise & enjoyed chatting with Tom on the way down.
ROCK ON!
:-)

Uganda (Sponsorship Day)

Sponsorship Day... Celebrate!!!
Meet Mary & Godfrey.
Bob and I sponsor them through Hope 4 Kids. We signed up as their sponsors this past January when Tom Eggum and the staff of Hope 4 Kids came to HOPE Church in Arizona to speak about their organization & mission trips. Child sponsorship is something they are passionate about. For a small monthly fee you can help a child go to school for an important education. They also receive routine health checks AND you gain a pen pal. Today I got to meet Mary and Godfrey in person. They are from different villages and as sweet as can be!
A special dinner & celebration was held today (July 22) for the sponsored children and their sponsors. Most on our team already had sponsored children but other team members signed up for sponsorship while on our trip.
All were able to enjoy this day together.
Delicious meal.
Sam and April.
April met Sam 4 years ago when she came to Uganda so this was a special time for them.
I gave Godfrey & Mary the book of Penelope. Godfrey read each page.
Also gave Godfrey & Mary markers and paper tablets too.
Godfrey wanted to draw pictures of Penelope...
... and Godfrey is a good artist!
GREAT job!!
Mary & I had fun painting our nails pink.
Pink balloons to match our nails!
Smiles!!!
Not the best photo... but this pic shows the whole group of happy children with their happy sponsors.
A wonderful day!

SOCCER!
Later on July 21st we watched the HOPE 4 KIDS football finals. This league was started by Tom Eggum & the local HOPE 4 KIDS staff. Various teams in the area compete all season.
This was the championship game.
Many locals came out to cheer as football is thee favorite sport here for sure! Fun to watch such talented players!
Congratulations to Tom & H4KI for bringing this football league to Tororo, Uganda.

CYCLING?!
After church I borrowed this bike for a quick pedal.
I nearly crashed while trying to balance the sugar cane and grasp for the brakes that didn't exist. YIKES!
Random pic of chicks on the walk back to our hotel. :-)
