Yesterday's Grand Canyon hike continued...

Being goofy on the beach.

After lunch at the river, Brian and the chicks hiked to Phantom Ranch. We wrote some postcards there that will be carried out by mule US Postal service tomorrow.

Back across the Colorado on a different bridge to the Bright Angel Trail.

Since we were feeling good we decided to do 3 miles extra to Plateau Point.
Beautiful flowers lined the trail.

One last look at The Colorado and then we pushed 6 more miles for the top.

It was a tough last stretch to the rim. Maybe there was something to that warning sign?

We made it! We are happy. :-)

Congratulations to the gang here who hiked 22 miles (South Kaibab Trail to Phantom Ranch and out Bright Angel Trail).

Also congratulations to our 6 friends who hiked Rim to Rim to Rim today. They started at 1am and all finished between 5 and 6pm. 46 miles round trip - wow! Maybe next year April and I will conquer that.

Me: At 5am we took the shuttle to South Kaibab trailhead. Here was the start of our Grand Canyon hike.

 4 other friends joined us for today's trek.

On our way down this sign boldly said NOT to attempt a hike to the river and back in one day. 6 of us ignored the sign while Carol heeded the warning. She continued with her hike a long ways down, took a siesta on a rock, enjoyed the view with perfect weather and then returned to the rim via the South Kaibab Trail.

 The rest of us continued on to the Colorado River. Here is April on one of my favorite sections of the hike.

Yesterday was April's first time ever seeing the Grand Canyon. Today she's hiked it to the bottom and back. Glad I got to be part of this amazing experience.

Me: 3rd time's a charm!

This is the 3rd and final curio cabinet. It's a keeper!

Here is the Curio Story: I've been searching Craig's list and buying, searching antique stores and buying, searching garage sales and buying and NOW, I'm done. :-)

This was the first curio...

Black, sorta cool but way too big when I got it home. Biggest deal breaker though: it smelled like smoke.

Curio #2. Very pretty and simple. The wood (veneer) tones went well with the piano. I bought and brought this one home last night and was satisfied. I thought this was it until...

I went to a garage sale this morning. :-/ I wasn't even looking for a curio cabinet anymore. But, the one and only garage sale that mom and I found had this piece. It defiintely caught my eye. I looked it over as the estate seller boasted about it being a certain brand from Virginia. While 2 other couples were standing behind me ready to say "We'll take it",  I claimed it. I first tried to bargain for a better price but no go. It was already a good deal so I left happy. I called James for the 3rd time in 2 weeks to haul a large all-glass cabinet across town. Once in the house we did some rearranging. It's a winner, I think it's gorgeous!

Now I have 2 curio cabinets and my original cabinet to sell on craig's list. Hoping I can even make money on them. I'll let you know.

Me: Pat and Bob hit the road early this morning. They'll be pulling their trailer with #44 inside back to their home in the bay. We are so happy they have fun with their Model T tours all over the country and especially the events in Arizona where we can participate too. Of course we appreciate their full throttle enthusiasm and mad skills for home improvement. Thank you!!!  PS: I want a rematch in Password. Bob Sr. & I barely lost to Bob and his mom in Password last night. :-)

Forgot to mention my other retro find at the antique store yesterday. A wire album holder along with The Supremes & Elvis records.

It's perfect next to the 1950's phono and radio credenza. Found this on Craig's list last week (from the same guy who sold us the cedar chest). We're having a lot of fun playing records! We don't have much of a record collection yet but here is what we've been playing: The Statlers, Loretta Lynn, The Beach Boys, The Smothers Brothers, Dean Martin, Elvis and Bing Crosby. Any one have an Andy Williams album? Mom said he was my dad's favorite.

Me: Another busy day of projects. Here are the finished patio chair cushions. I had the fabric in storage and the table was found at a garage sale months ago. 

Pretty piano room chair. Joan found the bargain fabric and Bob's dad and mom did a professional job reupholstering 2 cushions. The 2 matching chairs came from where else; a garage sale. :-)

Today's mid-century find (at a Mesa antique store) is the wire rack next to Bob. It was a phone stand: phone set on top, note pad in the middle and phone books underneath. It even has a wire pen holder attached. It's so cool. For us it's the perfect sized table to fit between the window and couch and it holds a glass or two, a note pad with pen and magazines underneath. LOVE!
